Introduction of Gazi MIS

Gazi University was founded in 1926 under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as the Secondary School of Teachers. In 1929, it became "Gazi Teachers Training School and Education Institute"; In 1947, it was transformed into "Gazi Education Institute" under the name “Gazi Teachers School and Education Institute". In 1980, with the decision of the Ministry of Education, it became “Gazi Higher Teachers Training School", providing 4-year education. In 1982, Gazi University was established and the name Gazi Teachers Training School was changed to Gazi Education Faculty and many faculties were opened in addition to this faculty. On the other hand, Faculty of Applied Sciences is the newest faculty established at Gazi University.

The proposal of Gazi University Rectorate regarding the Department of Management Information Systems at the Faculty of Applied Sciences was examined by the Higher Education Executive Board (HEEB) meeting that was held on 16.12.2020 in conformity with article 7 / d-2 of Law number 2547 amended by Law number 2880, and the proposal was found to be suitable by HEEB.

With the letter from HEEB dated 18.12.2020, numbered E-75850160-101.03.01-81627, the Management Information Systems Department (Gazi MIS) in the Faculty of Applied Sciences was officially established. Gazi MIS is the second department opened after the Department of Photonics in the Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2020.

The first doctoral program in the field of Management Information Systems in Turkey was established at Gazi University Institute of Informatics and education and training activities in Gazi MIS Master’s and PhD programs are ongoing.

Gazi MIS department will admit students in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year.

The aim of the Gazi MIS department is to train manpower that will undertake the management of the business world in the 21st century and apply the information obtained through computer systems to the functions and solutions of problems in the fields of business and management. With the courses given in the field of management and organizational psychology, it is aimed to impart knowledge to human and organizational experts. In addition, the program is designed to provide students with the ability to understand the planning, design, realization and management processes of the methods, processes and systems used to meet the needs of production, storage, sharing and access of information, in a way that gives an impact to the era and society we live in.

Gazi MIS department graduate ultimately will become affiliated in institutions and organizations that progress with their advanced knowledge and skills in business management, information and technology management skills and can work in national and international entities such as banking, health, tourism, logistics, media, social media and communication, in short, using information technologies, especially e-government, publications, and can become management information systems specialists, e-commerce specialists, system analysts and designers of systems such as e-export, e-commerce, decision support systems, software development process management systems, data mining, cloud information technologies, system management, business analysis and project management, They will be able to find employment in various positions such as business analysts, business intelligence specialists, enterprise resource planning specialists, software developers, database analysts, database specialists, network systems specialists, data scientists, marketing specialists/managers, business development specialists/developers, project managers.
